THE LESSON is a new musical imagining the story of traveling disparate tribes in a post-apocalyptic, very distant future. They have been left with only questions about their world's swift decline when one day, they uncover an A.I. time capsule that provides clues through hologram avatars of legendary writers, Mozart and Beethoven from Earth. As the tribe members unearth their works, they discover the hidden symbols and secrets written into Mozart’s Magic Flute: a forbidden queer romance between the two that was written out of the history books and how their music galvanized a revolution during their time. While reinterpreting - and rewriting - the stories and music of Mozart and Beethoven through their eyes, the tribes reclaim their power over the oppressive institutions that control the current world, giving hope to future generations. A hybrid of theater, film, concert, and dance party, THE LESSON asks us to examine the purpose of artistic expression, the influence of family on who we are, and the power/perils of unbridled technological expansion. It’s a lesson that will change their lives - and the world forever.
